Higher Ground - Beginnings
Higher Ground USA was officially formed in 2007. The next year we set to work running our first programs and earning our non-profit designation. Although we are in the relative youth of our existence, the roots of our founding run deep. The passions and convictions that led to the founding of Higher Ground were set in place years ago and have developed over time. Higher Ground USA was birthed out of a commitment to transformation, a love for adventure, and a desire to meet the needs of people.
Transformation, while difficult, is essential to abundant living. It often comes though challenge and insists that we live outside of our comfort zone for some stretch of time. It’s a process which requires time, intentionality, reflection, and honesty. Our goal is to effect lasting change and transformation in the lives of those around us. We equip participants to transfer insights back to the real world so that growth continues when students return home. It is through this application of learning that individuals begin to live this process of transformation in daily life.
Obviously, we also love adventure. Whether it involves rock, trail, or water, we love all things outdoors. As much as we enjoy the activities themselves though, our experience has been that excursions into the outdoors always add up to more than the sum of their parts. For us, adventure has consistently been a catalyst for growth, a place for reflection, and a vehicle through which we know the Creator. We appreciate the opportunity to share this type of experience with others.
In fact, others are why we exist. We are driven by our desire to glorify God through serving others. We exist to meet the needs of people. Our decision to work with a diverse client base and to offer a variety of programming options stems from the belief that we ought to meet people where they are.
So it is, that at the intersection of transformation, adventure, and people, Higher Ground was formed to engage others in the name of Christ; to offer programs that address needs, facilitate growth, and make a lasting impact on the lives of participants.
The Participant Experience
The trip overcame each one of our expectations. We all greatly appreciated the patience and servant’s hearts your staff displayed daily. The experience formed special bonds, friendships, understanding, and an intimate appreciation for God’s creative power.
